Project
The MIT Events Calendar was about 15 years old and had an outdated design and minimal functionality. In collaboration with Institute Events and Information Systems and Technology, we set out to create an upgraded events calendar that was contemporary, user friendly, and socially engaging.
Methodology
After a comprehensive review of platforms, talking with peer universities, and listening to our community, we determined that partnering with Localist, a leader in interactive calendar software, was the best solution. The platform offers practical features for event creators and those looking to attend events.
Results
The calendar launched in the summer of 2017, and nearly 200 departments, labs, centers, and groups—with over 1,000 users—have already posted events showcasing the breadth of academic, arts, and recreational activities on campus. Some of the new features include a mobile user interface, the ability to post photos and videos related to an event, event sharing through social media, and the ability to search for events with filters by interest, audience, or school.
